چکیده
The present study was carried out to determine the vitamin C content, total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant efficacy and monomeric anthocyanin (TMAC) of twenty-one underutilized fruit species grown in Sri Lanka. Approximately 5g homogenates used while lyophilized aqueous extracts were perform in-vitro assays. Folin-Ciocalteu’s colorimetric assay TPC. 2,2-diphenyl-1-pycrylehydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, 2,2’- azinobis- 3- ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS) activity ferric reducing power (FRAP) assays extracts, pH differential method TMAC. highest TPC (104 mg gallic equivalents/g on dry weight (DW) basis), (155?mol ferrous sulphate DW), lowest IC50 (0.0004 g DW/mL) recorded Phyllanthus emblica obtained first rank overall antioxidative properties among tested species. Fruits with Flacourtia indica, Morus alba, Syzygium caryophyllatum. TMAC found S. caryophyllatum (79 cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G)/g DW) Elaeocarpus. serratus (0.29 C3G/g DW). Antioxidant properties in some selected cyanobacteria isolated from fresh water bodies of Sri Lanka
Phytonutrients and pigments present in cyanobacteria act as antioxidants, which facilitate the formation of body's defense mechanism against free radical damage to cells. The aim of this investigation was to study the total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), antioxidant activity, phycobiliproteins (PBPs), and active compounds in four cyanobacterial species, that is, Oscillat...

متن کاملBerberine content in Coscinium fenestratum grown in Sri Lanka
Coscinium fenestratum (Gaertn.) Colebr. (Family: Menispermaceae) is one of the most important plants used in traditional systems of medicine. The major compound in the C. fenestratum is berberine. In the present study, berberine content was quantified using C. fenestratum grown in Sri Lanka. Results revealed that hot extraction method was more suitable for getting high yield of berberine from C...
متن کاملMonitoring Antimicrobial Susceptibility in Food-borne Pathogens from Selected Species in Sri Lanka
Frequent monitoring of antimicrobial susceptibility in bacteria from any source (i.e. animal, food or human) is extremely valuable activity to ensure global public health. The acquired resistance among pathogenic bacteria may become evident clinically in events which fail to get the expected therapeutic response of an antimicrobial agent which had been successfully used for many years. In such ...
متن کاملComparison of phenolic content and antioxidant activities of millet varieties grown in different locations in Sri Lanka
Soluble and bound phenolic compounds were extracted from different varieties of millet types namely, finger millet, foxtail, and proso millet cultivated at dry and intermediate climatic zones in Sri Lanka. The extracts were examined for their total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and proanthocyanidin content (PC). The antioxidant activities were meassured by reducing powe...
